The Caulerpa racemosa invasion: a critical review.
Caulerpa racemosa var. cylindracea is a marine Chlorophyta introduced into the Mediterranean Sea from south-western Australia. Since 1990, it has been invading the Mediterranean Sea and the Canary Islands, raising ecological problems. Although this invasion event can be considered as one of the most serious in the history of species introduced into the Mediterranean Sea, C. racemosa has not tri...
متن کاملAnti-herpetic activity of Caulerpa racemosa
BLACK Luffa sponge, derived from dried fruits of Luffa aegyptiaca Mill. (Sponge gourd, Hindi – Ghiya tori), could be a suitable matrix for tissue culture in aseptic liquid culture media. To test this, the response of aroid Philodendron ‘Xanadu’ Hort., an exquisite indoor-ornamental with its beautiful leaves and tangled aerial roots, was studied in vitro by Gangopadhyay and others. A study on in...
متن کاملremoval of lead and cadmium ions from aqueous solutions using dried marine green macroalga (caulerpa racemosa)
in this study caulerpa racemosa has been characterized and used for the removal of cd(ii) and pb (ii) from aqueous solutions. the effect of ph, adsorbent dosage, contact time and temperature on adsorption process was studied in batch experiments. langmuir and freundlich models were applied to describe the biosorption isotherm of the metal ions by c. racemosa biomass. the adsorption data can be ...
متن کاملThreat to macroalgal diversity: effects of the introduced green alga Caulerpa racemosa in the Mediterranean
Caulerpa racemosa is a tropical green alga introduced into the Mediterranean probably as an immigrant from the Red Sea. This study evaluated the modifications caused by C. racemosa invasion on the structure of the benthic macroalgal community near Leghorn (northwestern Mediterranean). To achieve this objective, we studied invasion by C. racemosa of algal assemblages on 2 different substrata by ...
متن کاملGas chromatographic-mass spectrometry study of the essential oils of Pimenta racemosa var. terebinthina and P. racemosa var grisea.
The essential oil of the leaves of P. racemosa var. terebinthina and P. racemosa var. grisea were examined by GC and GC/MS. The major constituents were alpha-terpineol acetate (27%), alpha-terpineol (20%) and 4-methoxy eugenol (12.6%) for Pracemosa var. terebinthina and 4-methoxy-isoeugenol (75.2%) and 4-methoxy-eugenol (4.5%) for P. racemosa var. grisea.
